Fischer Connectors and Draka have collaborated closely to develop an integrated Triax HD system for cameras, delivering significantly extended transmission distances. The Draka Triax 11 HD Pro cable, with a diameter of 11.9 mm, achieves the lowest loss of any triax of its size and is perfectly matched to the Triax HD Pro+ variant of Fischer’s 1051 series connectors. Both are optimized for 3G HD broadcast cameras.

Together, the 1051 Triax HD Pro+ system provides over 30% longer transmission distances compared to conventional 11.2 mm triax cables. Assemblies are 35% lighter, far more flexible, and typically 30% cheaper than a 14 mm triax equivalent. Testing by leading camera manufacturers shows that the maximum usable length depends on the camera and CCU models, with recorded results up to 1700 m and 1500 m being typical. The Triax HD Pro+ system is fully compatible with both current and legacy Fischer 1051 series triax connectors, offering a cost-effective performance upgrade for triax cameras, CCUs, and infrastructure where ultra-long-distance fiber is unnecessary or cost-prohibitive.

The HD Pro+ cable connectors are based on the 1051 triax connectors, completely redesigned in 2007. Fewer internal parts and a more rugged exterior allow faster and simpler termination, improved RF, HD, and 3G HD performance, and greater strength and reliability. All 1051 series connectors provide IP68 protection when mated or fitted with latching dust caps.

The internal cable clamp components are the same for both SE and KE free cable-end connector styles. Once assembled, the mating interfaces can be quickly replaced if damaged, or swapped if cables are accidentally connected the wrong way, without disturbing the cable termination. (For free cable types, dust caps attached to the strain relief must be removed and replaced if the connector gender is permanently changed.) Unlike SMPTE 304M/311M hybrid fiber, the Triax HD Pro+ system is easy to maintain and can be repaired in the field or workshop. No special tools are required to solder-terminate the cable or fit the connector interfaces, though both the inner conductor and braid can be crimped if preferred (crimp tools available on special order).
